AWB’s 2009/10 estimated pool returns (EPRs) for wheat are steady this week, with benchmark APW grade wheat estimated at $263 a tonne in the Eastern Pool and $257 a tonne in the Western Pool (FOB, excl GST).

AWB General Manager Commodities, Mitch Morison, said that international wheat values had steadied as trade slows through the Christmas period, with the lower Australian dollar helping to support returns.

“International trade tends to slow during the Christmas period and the early part of January, so barring any shocks in the market, we would expect values to be relatively steady,” Mr Morison said.

“The focus of the market is turning to the new season with northern hemisphere producers now firmly in the grip of winter, it will be some time before the new season supply picture is known with confidence in those regions.

“Our pool marketing program is progressing and we are well placed to capture market upside.”
