Golden Rewards is managed by the AWB National Pool and aims to provide growers with a market-driven, more accurate and equitable payment system for wheat.
Golden Rewards can be divided into five key areas:
- Pay Grades based on the variety you grow and deliver
- Payment for specific quality delivered
- Active payment scales for Protein, Screenings and Moisture
- Dynamic Binning Lines
- Premium Choice Varieties
Pay Grades based on the variety you grow and deliver
The variety you grow is the main determinant of what you will be paid when you deliver to the AWB National Pool. How you are paid is no longer rigidly linked to where your wheat is Binned.
You must accurately identify and declare the wheat varieties you deliver to ensure the varietal integrity of the Binning Lines is maintained. Random testing will be conducted to check declarations.
There will be changes to variety based payment from the 2005-06 harvest which may affect your planting decisions – please refer to Premium Choice Varieties.
Payment for specific quality delivered
Golden Rewards pays you for the quality you deliver. You will be paid according to a varietal Pay Grade as long as:
- Your load fits within the Golden Rewards Payment Matrices for Protein, Screenings and Moisture
- A Binning Line corresponding to your Pay Grade is open at the receival point
- You meet all other receival standards for that Pay Grade
If a load is downgraded because one or more receival standards for a Pay Grade is not met, then the Australian Utility Hard (AUH), Australian General Purpose (AGP) or Australian Utility Wheat (AUW) Active Payment Matrix, or the Feed price, will apply, depending on how your wheat quality fits with receival standards
On your deliver ticket:
- The payment grade is referred to as the “Pay Grade” and your payment will be calculated from this and its corresponding Active Payment Matrix.
- The storage grade is referred to as the "Bin Grade” or Binning Line and this is how your grain will be stored or segregated.
Active Payment Scales for Protein, Screenings and Moisture
The Active Payment Scales for Protein, Screenings and Moisture provide an accurate reflection of the international market value of your wheat’s quality. The scales represent estimated incremental premiums and discounts around the Base Rate and are active to 0.1 percent within each Varietal Pay Grade.
AWB National Pool Pay Grade Base Rates and increments for Protein, Screenings and Moisture are estimates and will vary with market conditions and according to crop quality.
The Active Payment Scales are reviewed each Pool Update, which occurs weekly in November and December and fortnightly during the rest of the year.

Dynamic Binning Lines
AWB develops a Binning Line strategy in conjunction with bulk handlers to store grain according to the qualities most appropriate to customer specifications.
Your bulk handler uses active stack management to ensure each Binning Line has the correct quality for the market.
