AWB’s 2011/11 season estimated pool returns (EPRs) have remain unchanged for the majority of wheat grades despite strong competition from the Black Sea and an increase in feed and lower quality wheats tonnages across the East Coast due to recent wet weather.
AWB’s 2011/12 EPRs for APW wheat remains unchanged at $270 a tonne and ANW noodle wheat is $285 a tonne in the WA Pool, APW is $268 a tonne in the SA Pool and $272 a tonne in the Eastern Pool (FOB, excl GST). Durum wheat grades EPRs have increased by $10 a tonne following good interest from international customers.
AWB’s Jon White said: “While wheat futures have decreased over the past couple of weeks the recent fall in Australian dollar had offset some of this price pressure.
“Domestically harvest conditions and increased competition out of the Black Sea region is the major factors weighing on Australian wheat prices,” Mr White said.
“Delivering to our pools enables the grower to capture the benefit of having AWB’s pool management team working to seek the best outcome for pool participants over a longer timeframe while still providing growers ready access to cash flow. Globally Australian high protein wheats remain well supported particularly in nearby markets, however continuing rains on the East Coast is likely to lead to significant crop downgrades which may place price pressure on lower quality wheat in spot markets.
“As a result of the recent weather conditions on the East Coast we have introduced a number of new feed segregations to accommodate farmers’ deliveries into the pool, including AH9 and the introduction of a 70:10 stock feed wheat segregation.
“It is the ideal environment for wheat growers to market feed wheat via AWB pools, because we have made solid relationships with a range of customers in South East Asia, North Asia and the Pacific region following last year’s significant feed wheat marketing program. A number of our customers are currently including feed wheat in their rations replacing corn and we will continue to work with them on this.
“Our focus is on sales prospects for feed quality and the good news is that AWB continues to make strong export sales of feed wheat, with steady inquiry appearing from customers across Asia, where we have a significant freight advantage over just about every other origin.
“We have the shipping and logistics capability, the organisation and booking of which was assisted by our early commitment program, so our pools will happily take supply of feed wheat from eastern Australia and both sell and execute sales with confidence,’ Mr White said.
Farmers wishing to investigate AWB’s range of grain marketing options for 2011/12 should contact their local AWB representative or ring the Grower Services Centre on 1800 4GRAIN (1800 447 246).
