AWB will close its 2011/12 season wheat pools in all Victorian and New South Wales port zones at 5pm Friday 3rd February 2012. In addition, durum wheat pools will close today at 5pm in all pools and port zones.
The AWB 2011/12 wheat pools remain open in Western Australia and South Australia port zones except the Thevenard port zone which closed on 20 January 2012. With harvest complete we will start closing other ports zones in Western Australian and South Australia and these may close without notice.
AWB’s Jon White said: “Farmers planning to utilise AWB’s pools should make delivery arrangements promptly by either direct delivering or taking a pool access contract.”
“Our pools have been well supported by Australian farmers across the wheat belt and we are closing these pools to allow us to finalise our marketing and logistics programs for these port zones,” Mr White said.
“We have also opened a FED2 wheat grade in Western Australian to provide growers with a viable marketing option for this grade of feed wheat,” Mr White said.
Following a review of the AWB 2011/12 wheat pools estimated pool returns (EPRs) all grades remain unchanged except durum wheat grades which have been reduced by $4 - $12 a tonne due to softening in durum international wheat prices. AWB’s 2011/12 EPRs for APW wheat remains $275 a tonne and ANW noodle wheat is $290 a tonne in the WA Pool, APW is $264 a tonne in the SA Pool and $267 a tonne in the Eastern Pool (FOB, excl GST).
“While wheat futures have rallied since our last pool update on the back of reports that Russia may limit wheat exports, Australian wheat prices have remain relatively unchanged.” Mr White said.
“With the US looking to export to Egypt for the first time in a long time, the Russian news was enough to spark buying in futures last week. The timing of this, combined with continued weather concerns in South America and a potential winterkill in the Black Sea region has highlighted a lack of new sellers in the market.
“It appears at present the only major wheat seller is the Australian farmer, with the selling out of Australia definitely dampening the rally to date. This farmer selling has seen the wheat basis under considerable pressure, as our values have not moved significantly on the back of the rally in US wheat futures. The weak basis will not continue indefinitely, but will be a function of grower selling versus export demand.
“At present, the farmer selling is outweighing the demand side however demand for Australian wheat remains solid and we except this to continue,” Mr White said.
Farmers should contact our grain marketers or call AWB’s farmers services centre on 1800 4GRAIN (1800 447 246) regarding their grain marketing.
