AWB today increased its 2008/09 Pool estimates for all grades, including significant increases in the estimates for its Durum and Hard Wheat pools.

Weather events in NSW and Queensland are causing downgrades to a significant proportion of the Prime Hard and Hard wheat remaining to be harvested, and this is supporting for wheat prices for better quality across all grades.

AWB’s Eastern Pool Prime Hard segregation has increased $7/tonne, as has the Hard grade in both the Eastern and Western Pools. Most other grades, including the benchmark APW grade, have been increased $2 per tonne.

The Eastern Durum Pool has increased $90/tonne, once again reflecting weather issues in the prime durum growing regions in NSW and Queensland.

AWB General Manager Australian Commodities Stuart Richardson said harvest was picking up slowly, although weather conditions were less than ideal in parts of WA and NSW.

“As harvest gathers pace growers should continue to remain focussed on taking advantage of the marketing options available to them,” Mr Richardson said.

“Growers should remember that AWB’s pools can close at any time without notice, although they can reserve a place in AWB’s No.1 Eastern and Western Pools by contracting into those Pools.”
