AWB has moved to protect the equity of growers who have delivered or contracted into its No.1 Western Noodle Pools by closing them to non-contracted deliveries and opening No.2 Pools.
AWB General Manager Australian Commodities Stuart Richardson said the company would accept deliveries of Noodle wheat in WA through its No.2 Noodle Pools from this Friday December 12. All other grades in both the Eastern and Western Pools remain open but can close at any time.
Growers who have existing Pre-Commitment Contracts to deliver Noodle wheat are still able and required to make those deliveries to the AWB No. 1 Western Noodle Pool.
“We have received strong support from growers committing their Noodle varieties to AWB, though our Pre-Commitment Contracts and harvest deliveries,” Mr Richardson said.
“This has provided us with sufficient volume to meet our immediate marketing requirements for our customers in Japan and South Korea. These markets will be very competitive to service in 2008, given the number of exporters competing in a price-driven tender process in to Japan.”
Mr Richardson said the No.2 Western Noodle Pools for ANW1 and ANW2 had been opened at a discount to the No.1 Pools.
“AWB has a very good track record in developing and maintaining the market for WA noodle wheat in North Asia, and we will continue to provide WA growers with a highly competitive path to market through our Western Noodle Wheat Pools.
“Growers have responded pro-actively to our advice that our pools can close at any time by taking advantage of our pool Pre-Commitment contracts,” Mr Richardson said.
“I would encourage all growers to consider these options if they want to secure access to AWB’s Wheat Pools for all grades of wheat.”
