AWB’s 2009/10 estimated pool returns (EPRs) for wheat are steady this week, with benchmark APW grade wheat estimated at $263 a tonne in the Eastern Pool and $257 a tonne in the Western Pool (FOB, excl GST).

AWB General Manager Commodities, Mitch Morison, said that international wheat trade had been relatively quiet over the Christmas period.

“International commodity prices have lifted a little this week, although so has the Australian dollar; the main issue however is that the fundamental supply and demand picture for wheat has not changed,” Mr Morison said.

“The market is very interested in the prospects for new season wheat crops in the northern hemisphere, however it will be many weeks yet before the northern spring begins and gives confidence to production estimates.

“In the meantime our pool marketing program is progressing well and we are talking with growers who warehoused their wheat during the rush of harvest; January is the time when many will place their wheat with AWB and we are well placed to capture market upside,” Mr Morison said.
