AWB’s 2009/10 estimated pool returns (EPRs) for wheat are steady this week, with
benchmark APW grade wheat at $255 a tonne in the Eastern Pool and $250 a tonne in the Western Pool (FOB, excl GST). The exception is durum, with lower grades improving by $10 a tonne.
AWB General Manager Commodities, Mitch Morison, said that lately wheat prices have been influenced by commodity prices generally, so when international commodity prices improve, wheat has been tending to lift. The counter is the value of the Australian dollar, which is working against export returns for Australian growers.
“AWB’s customers continue to show strong support for the reliability, quality and flexibility we provide them, which supports our pool,” Mr Morison said.
“The fundamental supply and demand picture for wheat is what drives sustained movement in world wheat prices – this situation remains one of ample supply and limited demand, with buyers watching as the Australian harvest unfolds.”
Estimated returns for AWB’s 2008/09 wheat pools remain unchanged, with APW wheat at $325 a tonne in the Western Pool and $330 a tonne in the Eastern Pool (FOB, excl GST).
