AWB will close its 2009/10 season wheat pools in all remaining port zones of Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria on Tuesday, 16 February. The pools were closed in other locations earlier in January and February.
AWB General Manager Commodities, Mitch Morison, said growers planning to utilise AWB’s pools in any of the remaining regions should make delivery arrangements promptly. Growers can take a pool access contract, or have grain transferred to the AWB pool until midnight on 16 February.
Estimated pool returns (EPRs) are steady for all grades at present, with APW wheat at $254 a tonne in the Eastern Pool and $249 a tonne in the Western Pool (FOB, excl GST).
“The international wheat market has been under pressure, although steadied a little late last week,” Mr Morison said.
“The world has huge stocks available from 2009 and at present there are no problem areas apparent for the northern hemisphere new crop, which is still in winter dormancy.
“The northern spring is getting closer and the market will watch closely to see if any supply or demand issues emerge, however at present there is nothing to support a rally.
“Our wheat pool for the recent Australian harvest is about to close in the latest zones, so I’d encourage any grower who wants to know more about AWB’s pools and marketing program to contact their local AWB grain marketer without delay, or call the AWB Grower Services Centre,” Mr Morison said.
