Estimated pool returns (EPRs) for AWB’s 2009/10 wheat pools have shown improvement for Australian Prime Hard, Durum and Noodle Wheat grades, with increases of $3-$8 a tonne.
Benchmark APW grades are holding steady, with APW in the western pool at $242 a tonne, and $240 a tonne (FOB, excl GST) in the eastern pool.
AWB General Manager Commodities, Mitch Morison, said AWB’s sales of noodle wheat had been performing particularly well, which was reflected in the improved EPR.
“We’ve now completed a substantial amount of noodle wheat business, which has generated better returns than we’d previously anticipated, so the program is going well,” Mr Morison said.
“In addition, concern about crop prospects in Canada and grain quality in the southern United States is supporting prices for wheats that directly compete with production from those regions, so as our pool sales program from last harvest is still in progress, we can take advantage of that situation.
“On the barley front, our sales of both malting and feed grade have continued and all 2009/10 barley pool EPRs are holding steady.
“Looking ahead, indications are that barley prices will soften further as the US dollar strengthens, with the new crop harvest in the Black Sea region and European Union bringing more supply, while feed import demand from China will reduce as their corn harvest approaches,” Mr Morison said.
AWB’s 2009/10 barley pool EPRs are F1 $176/t, F2 $166/t, BA1 $269/t, GA1 $269/t, BU1 $259/t, VL1 $259/t (EPRs are FOB, excl GST).
