AWB’s 2009/10 estimated pool returns (EPRs) for wheat are steady this week, with benchmark APW grade wheat estimated at $263 a tonne in the Eastern Pool and $257 a tonne in the Western Pool (FOB, excl GST).

Lower grade durum values have improved in the Eastern Pool, with the AH9 grade introduced in response to grower needs.

AWB General Manager Commodities, Mitch Morison, said that international wheat values had fallen a little over the past week, while the Australian dollar holding a slightly lower value was beneficial for grower returns.

“Our pool estimates for all major wheat grades are holding steady, in the face of a slightly lower market,” Mr Morison said.

“The market is watching the fundamental supply and demand picture, which is still one of ample supply from 2009, with a few concerns about potential world production in 2010.

“It will be many months yet before the 2010 crop is known with confidence, so in the meantime our pools are well placed to capture market upside.”
