| ||AWB Assess Damage in Northern NSW|| ||
AWB Limited Chief Executive Andrew Lindberg is today visiting the flood-affected areas of Northern New South Wales.
Mr Lindberg will meet with growers throughout the Tamworth and Moree districts and will assess the damage to crops in the area.
He will discuss possible marketing solutions for weather damaged crops and will look at medium term finance options for those growers who cannot deliver their grain as a result of the flood damage.
“I am traveling through the area today to get a firm idea of the quality and quantity of the grain that has been affected. I am keen to talk to growers about their requirements and how AWB can assist them,” Mr Lindberg said.
He said northern New South Wales was a large grain producing area and a natural disaster of this magnitude would mean hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenue for growers.
“Obviously this will have a follow on effect to the wider community, particularly towns in the immediate area.
“Farmers invest significantly when planting their crops, through seed, fertilisers, machinery, labour and a whole range of other associated products and services.
“Not only will many farmers in the area not receive an income for this year, but they have lost the money they invested in their crops back in back in April and May.
“This is a devastating situation and I will be looking at all avenues of assistance,” Mr Lindberg said.
