AWB Limited today announced that due to a committed durum-marketing program it has been successful in selling Australian durum to South African and South American for the first time.
AWB’s Durum Marketing Manager Mr Michael Long said this is great news for Australia’s durum growers as the penetration of these new markets will strengthen AWB’s durum national pool.
“The good news for growers is that for the first time, we have sold durum into the South African and South American markets and hopefully we can continue to develop long term relationships with these new customers to maximise financial returns to durum growers,” said Mr Long.
“We have been successful in selling durum into South Africa and South America.
“This is a fantastic result for AWB, because this is the first time that we have penetrated these difficult markets.
“It shows that our innovative marketing strategies are working,” said Mr Long.
AWB has also been working to increase sales in traditional durum import markets including Italy, Libya, Algeria and Morocco.
“Despite a market distorted by the subsidised product of our competitors, AWB has continued to expand its marketing program for durum,” said Mr Long.
Mr Long said that AWB had successfully marketed its durum grades to a range of destinations and that the outlook for future sales was positive.
“We have made the most of early marketing opportunities, and I am confident that a combination of aggressive selling and strategic marketing will mean that we can build on these excellent results,” said Mr Long.
