AWB National Pool has established a new wheat pay grade to capture high protein hard wheat deliveries that offers growers a bonus of at least $6/t above the Australian Hard pool pay grade.
AWB General Manager National Pool Sarah Scales said the AEH pay grade would operate at selected grain receival sites, and accept AH varieties with 13% protein or higher.
The current Estimated Pool Return base rate for AEH is $330/t (FOB, GST exclusive), based on 13% protein, 5% screenings and 12.5% moisture.
"We are aware that there is going to be reduced wheat production in some of the traditional high protein wheat growing areas this year due to the adverse seasonal conditions," Ms Scales said.
"By establishing an AEH pay grade, we aim to capture and segregate some of the high protein hard wheat, and target those binning lines for specific customers in order to manage their demand for higher protein wheat.
"The bonus of at least $6/t provides incentive for growers to deliver high protein hard wheat and encourages bulk handling companies to segregate it as a discreet binning line.
"It will also allow growers to capitalise on what is a firm international market for higher protein wheat types," Ms Scales said.
Growers will receive Golden Rewards payments for protein, screenings and moisture as well as the bonus for wheat accepted into AEH.
AEH binning lines will be available at selected sites, agreed to by the relevant bulk handling company, in southern NSW, SA, Victoria and WA.
