The Board of AWB Limited today announced the appointment of Mr Brendan Stewart as chairman of AWB Limited, and that Mr Robert Barry was re-elected as deputy chair of AWB Limited.
In accepting the position Mr Stewart said it would be a privilege to chair AWB Limited, especially since it is in a strong financial position and had the right growth strategies in place to continue to perform in the future.
“At yesterday’s Annual General Meeting, AWB forecast a strong after tax profit of between $100 - $110 million for the year ending 30 September 2002, and this places the company in a very strong position,” said Mr Stewart.
Mr Stewart had the full support of the Board and management of AWB and looked forward to chairing the company.
“On behalf of the Board, management and employees of AWB I would like to thank outgoing chairman Mr Trevor Flugge for his fine leadership ability and outstanding performance,” said Mr Stewart.
Mr Stewart was a successful candidate in the AWB Limited director elections of 3 February 2000 and operates a 3,200-hectare property at Chinchilla, Queensland.
Mr Stewart is a former president of the Queensland Graingrowers Association, former president of the Grains Council of Australia and was chair of the Joint Ministerial Working Group on the Australian Wheat Board restructure and vice president of the National Farmers Federation.
Mr Stewart is a former chairman of the NFF Economics and Trade Committee, is a member of the CSIRO Field Crops Sector Advisory. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and chairman of Wideland Insurance Brokers Pty Ltd.
