AWB Limited has taken new measures to ensure the security of personal customer information, according to AWB Chief Executive Andrew Lindberg.
Mr Lindberg said the measures were in preparation for the new Commonwealth privacy laws that come into effect today,
Changes have been made to the Privacy Act 1988, which regulates such things as the collection, use and disclosure of personal information. The Act also gives certain rights of access or amendment to individuals in relation to that personal information.
"AWB takes the privacy of personal information very seriously," he said.
“AWB’s main concern is always for the growers, and the protection of their personal information is of paramount concern.”
Mr Lindberg said while AWB did not trade in personal information in the same way as some other businesses, the company did require access to some personal information in order to conduct its business.
That information included growers’ contact details as well as all details of their business transactions with AWB Limited.
