| ||Classifications remain for Petrie and Giles|| ||
AWB Limited has confirmed the wheat varieties Petrie and Giles will remain classified as Australian Hard in southern New South Wales for the 2003/04 harvest.
Both varieties were originally developed by the Department of Primary Industries, Queensland, and were released in 2001 for northern NSW and Queensland where they received an Australian Prime Hard classification. The varieties were classified as Australian Hard in the southern NSW region.
Recently completed testing by Agrifood Technology and NSW Agriculture on samples from trials grown in southern NSW has confirmed the Australian Hard classification is appropriate for that region.
AWB continually monitors the performance of individual wheat varieties as part of the rigorous classification process, which involves comparing their individual quality when grown in the target area, with the quality of established reference varieties at the relevant protein content.
Seed of the variety Giles is being commercialised by PlantTech Pty Ltd, whilst Petrie seed is commercialised by AWB Seeds.
