Young primary producers from around Australia have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and play a part in the future of their industry by attending the AWB Young Leaders Conference.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural conference, AWB is holding the event again this year. The 2005 Young Leaders Conference is being held in Melbourne from 17 – 19 August. The event will be open to young farmers aged between 18 and 35 years.
AWB Chairman Brendan Stewart said leadership was recognised as critical for rural businesses and rural communities, and the success of last year’s conference showed that many young farmers were willing to take up that challenge.
“This conference is about inspiring the next generation of young farm leaders, and assisting them to take on greater responsibility in their business, industry and communities,” Mr Stewart said.
“We launched this event last year, and the level of interest and the feedback from all of those who participated was extremely encouraging. It showed that there are young and enthusiastic members of rural communities out there who are willing to take the next step as far as their contribution to their industry.
“As Australia’s leading agribusiness, we are seeking to foster these potential young leaders as they are key to the future of the grains industry and rural and regional Australia,” Mr Stewart said.
Building on last year, the event program will include a mix of educational workshops, debates and presentations from industry and community representatives.
Mr Stewart encouraged all primary producers between the ages of 18 and 35 to apply to attend the AWB Young Leaders Conference. Potential delegates do not need any leadership experience. The conference is about helping attendees take the first step in the development of their leadership skills.
“If you are a young person who is part of a rural community, and you would like to play a part in shaping the future of that community, then I suggest this conference is for you,” Mr Stewart said.
All applications close 5pm (EST) on Friday 24 June, 2005 and numbers will be limited. Successful candidates will be notified by phone in the week commencing 11 July, 2005 and will be required to pay $250 participation fee prior to the conference. AWB will cover the remaining reasonable associated costs.
