Mildura Cooperative Fruit Company Ltd (MCFC) and Landmark, an AWB Company, have announced that the MCFC’s rural supplies division, which trades as Growmart, has been sold to Landmark.
Growmart is the leading supplier of fertilisers, farm chemicals and rural supplies in the Sunraysia horticultural region of north western Victoria, and includes eight distribution outlets.
The acquisition extends Landmark’s regional network and builds its presence in the growing horticultural industry. The transaction, which takes effect from May 31, follows more than 100 years of operation of Growmart by MCFC.
AWB Managing Director, Andrew Lindberg, said the Growmart business was an excellent fit within the existing Landmark network.
“Growmart has previously operated as a member of the Landmark network, so it is a business that we know and understand, and it remains a long term proposition for the company,” Mr Lindberg said.
“Through integration with the Landmark network, we will also be able to grow this business and to develop as a full service provider to clients in the region, backing the rural supply business with a national network and our expertise in areas such as finance, insurance, livestock and real estate.”
Mildura Co-operative Fruit Company Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Gorman, said the sale followed 101 years of ownership by the MCFC, which was refocussing on new opportunities in its core business of fruit processing.
“MCFC is focussed on developing its fruit processing business, but we have also been committed to ensuring a prosperous future for Growmart and its clients. Growmart has operated as Landmark’s largest member, and so it is a natural fit and one that we expect will see the Growmart business continue to develop,” Mr Gorman said.
“All Growmart staff will be offered employment with Landmark. The employees should be proud of their fine effort in building Growmart to its position as the dominant rural supplies distributor in north western Victoria. They have ensured that the business will carry forward and continue to prosper as part of Landmark and the AWB Group,” Mr Gorman said.
