AWB International Chairman Mr Ian Donges today reaffirmed AWB’s strong marketing program by highlighting some recent significant sales in key international markets.
Mr Donges said AWB has recently achieved almost 1.4 million metric tonnes of major new sales to countries such as India, Yemen, Kuwait and Iran, and has continued an elevated pattern of sales activity into a wide range of markets throughout the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
"We are continuing to achieve full sales targets with most traditional customers and we are also successfully securing new market opportunities against some very tough competition," Mr Donges said.
"India and Iran have not imported wheat for some years due to their favourable domestic crops, but they have recently entered the market and we have now been able to win half a million metric tonnes in new sales to India alone.
"With a great 2005 season in Australia and the resultant large harvest there is no doubt we have a very big marketing challenge in front of us this year.
"However our first quarter sales and shipping program is right on track, and in fact the major challenge we currently face is not in securing the sales, it is managing the export logistics program through a national port system which is already very close to full capacity.
"AWB’s strong track record of reliability and its ability to provide fully integrated services allows the needs of both the international customers and Australia’s wheat growers to be maximised.
"We have recently received some very encouraging letters of support and commitment from a wide range of customers.
"We are keeping our eye firmly on the ball and are putting the results on the board where they matter," Mr Donges said.
