AWB has increased the Estimated Pool Returns (EPRs) for hard wheat in the 2005/06 National Pool this week, following a recent rally in US wheat futures.
Hard wheat pay grades for the 2005/06 Number 1 Pool have been increased by $2 per tonne, with APW now at $190/t. Meanwhile Noodle grades have been increased by $4/t (FOB, GST exclusive).
The 2004/05 Pools, which are drawing toward finalisation, remained unchanged.
AWB National Pool Manager, David Johnson, said US wheat futures had jumped out of their previous trading range in the past two weeks, rallying relatively sharply to their highest level for some months.
“At this time of the year the market tends to be quite sensitive to weather conditions for the major grain growing countries, and as such we have to expect to see some price volatility,” Mr Johnson said.
“The rally for wheat over the past week has largely been supported by a jump in corn values which has lead to a high level of fund activity within wheat futures.
“In addition, concerns over the potential of winter kill from extreme cold temperatures in the European Union, Russia and Ukrainehave provided price support,” Mr Johnson said.
Mr Johnson said that with the current harvest all but complete, the pool and crop size appeared to be in line with expectations.
“Growers have once again supported the AWB National Pool and receivals to-date confirm AWB’s previously released crop forecast of 23 to 25 million tonnes,” Mr Johnson said.
The next pool update will be on the 13th February 2006.
