The Executive Chairman AWB, Mr Brendan Stewart, today announced the appointment of Mr Gordon Davis as Managing Director of AWB Limited.
Mr Davis, 50, is currently the head of the Australia Asia division of Mining Services at Orica Limited, a Melbourne-based explosives and mining multinational company. The Australia Asia division is the biggest in Orica’s global portfolio in Mining Services.
Mr Davis will take up his role at AWB in mid-September, as soon as he has concluded his obligations with Orica.
The AWB Board appointed Mr Davis after conducting a global search for a candidate with appropriate experience in agribusiness and international trading.
Mr Stewart said he was pleased to be able to appoint a candidate who had the combination of strong personal attributes and highly relevant experience needed to do the job.
“Gordon’s recent history in Orica, and in a previous role as head of the fertiliser division at Incitec (a division within ICI, which became Orica), gave him the edge over other candidates,” Mr Stewart said.
“We looked around our region and the world - and Gordon was clearly the best fit for our industry and global operations.
“His work with Incitec provided good understanding of agriculture-related business and his Orica Mining Services leadership role provided strong recent experience in the Asia region.
“He has proven strengths in cultural change and business restructuring and integration – capabilities which are essential in a top executive today and will be invaluable as Gordon develops the future strategy for AWB.
This appointment is an important step towards rebuilding the company,” Mr Stewart said.
Mr Davis has also worked in the Tasmanian Forestry commission and as a policy advisor to former Federal Liberal Party leader, Dr John Hewson.
He has business and agricultural science degrees from Melbourne University and the University of Tasmania. He was born and raised in Melbourne and is married with three children.
