Estimated wheat Pool returns for Australian growers have improved today, with AWB increasing forecast returns for old and new season wheat deliveries by up to $6 per tonne.
For the old season 2005/06 National Pool, high protein and noodle pay grades have been increased by $5/t, while benchmark APW has been lifted $2/t.
For the new season 2006/07 National Pool, the Estimated Pool Returns (EPR) for the majority of pay grades have been increased by $6/t, with noodle and durum grades lifted $5/t.
AWB Pool Manager, David Johnson, said AWB had been able to capture improving physical wheat values during the past few weeks.
“The real change in the market has been an improvement in international cash values, particularly for French, Russian and Black Sea region wheat,” Mr Johnson said.
“The value for this wheat has been driven higher based on production and quality concerns from the European crop, which is now more than half way through being harvested with results down on expectations. At the same time, we have also witnessed reduced production expectations in the southern hemisphere.
“AWB has been able to capture these improved prices with some strong recent sales for the 2005/06 Pool, and has added value through the hedging program for the 2006/07 Pool.
“The other factor providing some support for the market has been some positive signs on the demand side, most notably from India and Egypt,” Mr Johnson said.
Mr Johnson said US wheat futures in Chicago had also rallied this week, with the stronger European values likely to also see an increase in demand for soft wheat from the US.
