AWB has classified the wheat variety Binnu to be received into the ASWN grade (noodles).
“Binnu will be a welcome addition to the ASWN segregation providing very good end product colour and texture and enabling Australian farmers to remain at the forefront in producing the best Udon noodle wheat in the world,”said acting AWB National Pool Manager David Johnson.
Udon noodles are an essential sector of the Japanese market and the wheat varieties exhibiting the necessary qualities are therefore in high demand.
“Binnu is of similar quality to Arrino and is an improvement on Calingiri for the key quality attributes of colour and texture,” Mr Johnson said.
Over the course of the coming year AWB will be further reviewing the quality of Binnu to look at its potential inclusion in the Premium Choice Variety program.
Growers are encouraged to obtain independent agronomic and business advice before making the decision to grow Binnu.
