AWB today announced that it is offering a new marketing option to Western Australian lupin farmers with the launch of its inaugural 2011/12 season WA lupin pool for farmers in the Geraldton port zone.
AWB’s Jon White said the company has been working with WA company Irwin Valley Milling to establish its first WA lupin pool.
“Irwin Valley Milling is aiming to increase domestic and international demand for lupin flour which is gluten-free, has a low GI, but is high in protein, energy and fibre while AWB is firmly focused on feed markets,” Mr White said.
“AWB is aiming to capture increased demand in domestic and international feed markets.
“We are in the fortunate position of being able to offer farmers a fresh marketing option at the same time as international customers are looking for differing feed protein sources.
“Traditionally Australia’s lupin exports have focused on a limited number of international feed markets however we are starting to see more demand from international customers looking for differing protein sources.
“We are aiming to capture some of this demand to the benefit of WA farmers.
“This is a targeted pool developed in direct response to the demands we have identified and is available to WA lupin growers in the Geraldton port zone for a limited volume.
“As an experienced grain exporter we aim to use strong customer relationships to create value for our lupin pool and will look to expand the offering to other WA port zones and states next season depending on the success of the program,” Mr White said.
The 2011/2012 AWB WA Lupin Pool estimated pool return is $245 delivered Geraldton port zone.
