This season AWB will be offering Australian canola farmers a sustainable canola marketing program which will provide access to the European biofuel market.
AWB Origination General Manager Jeff Vassart said: “We can offer the sustainable canola marketing opportunity following recent 2BSvs standard certification of our sustainable management system as compliant with the EU Renewable Energy Directive.”
The 2BSvs consortium was founded in 2010 by the French biofuel, biodiesel and bioethanol production industries to create and manage the 2BSvs Biomass Biofuels Sustainability voluntary scheme to help comply with EU requirements in terms of biofuel sustainability.
The EU Renewable Energy Directive sets targets for all Member States, aiming for the EU to reach a 20 percent share of energy from renewable sources by 2020 and a 10 percent share of renewable energy specifically in the transport sector.
“Cargill Australia is the first company outside of Europe to be certified to 2BSvs under this scheme. Its biomass biofuels sustainable scheme is approved by the European Commission, and is such recognised by EU member countries,” Mr Vassart said.
As part of the certification Cargill Australia was audited by Bureau Veritas Australia Pty Ltd to ensure it complied with the EU regulations and the 2BSvs Scheme requirements.
“This certification provides Australian canola farmers participating in this program with access to EU markets. As a company, Cargill is globally committed to promoting renewable resources of biomass crops to produce environmentally-friendly biofuels,” he said.
Farmers wanting to sell canola to AWB as part of this program will need to deliver their canola to one of the nominated sites listed below and sign a Sustainability Declaration to document the nature of the land from which the canola was produced.
However if a farmer is unable to sign a declaration regarding this marketing program AWB will continue to buy their canola under our standard canola marketing arrangements.
GrainFlow nominated sites for delivery into AWB’s sustainable canola marketing program are:
- NSW – Bogan Gate, Gilgandra, Grong Grong, Narromine, Nyngan, Oaklands, Stockinbingal and West Wyalong
- South Australia – Pinnaroo
- Victoria – Birchip, Dimboola and Sealake
In addition the BFB Temora site (NSW) and ABA sites at Coolamon (NSW), Tatyoon North (Vic), Tocumwal (NSW) and The Rock (NSW) will all accept deliveries regarding AWB’s sustainable canola marketing program.
Farmers wishing to participate in this marketing opportunity should contact their local AWB representative or ring the Farmer Services Centre on 1800 4GRAIN (1800 447 246).
