Growers travel hundreds of kms to deliver to Dimboola

Interstate number plates are becoming a regular feature at Dimboola’s GrainFlow site in the Victorian Wimmera. The site is not only popular with local growers, but is attracting growers as far afield as South Australia looking to secure maximum value for their wheat deliveries.
Drought has significantly reduced production in the east coast, driving prices upwards sharply.
AWB Territory Manager for the Wimmera, John Simpson, said growers were focused on making the most from their harvest, and are willing to drive the additional kilometres to ensure they do.
“We have had a number of growers who are delivering to Dimboola from South Australia, sometimes travelling hundreds of kilometres to take advantage of the prices at the Dimboola site.”
“Dimboola is well located and well equipped with rail to supply the hungry east coast markets, and this is reflected in the site prices we publish every day.”
Growers are also benefitting from upgrades to their deliveries through GrainFlow’s Dynamic Binning, an automatic ticket upgrade system that applies to wheat, barley and canola.
“About ten percent of all deliveries are being upgraded to a higher grade, putting extra dollars into the growers pocket. It’s a pleasant surprise when the grower gets an SMS to say their load has been upgraded,” John said.
