Estimated Pool Returns (EPRs) for all wheat grades in the AWB Number 1 and Number 2 2007/08 National Pools, except feed, have been reduced by $8-$10 a tonne, following the fortnightly review of National Pool returns.
The 2007/08 EPR for benchmark APW grade for the AWB Number 1 National Pool has been reduced by $8 a tonne and is now at $426/t (FOB GST exclusive) and for the Number 2 National Pool APW has been reduced by $10 a tonne and is now $411/t (FOB GST exclusive).
AWB General Manager National Pool, David Johnson, said that over the past two weeks, consumers had significantly pulled back on the price levels they were prepared to pay for wheat, which was combining with efforts from sellers to clear their stocks, particularly from Europe and ports on the Black Sea.
“Traders and other suppliers are pricing with a view to secure business and clear stocks in preparation for a large harvest starting in July,” Mr Johnson said.
“Similarly demand has slowed as mills have reduced consumption, looking to participate in more plentiful offers coinciding with the northern hemisphere harvest.
“Meanwhile new crop cash bids have moved lower, following rain in dry areas of the United States winter wheat belt and forecasts of increased world production this year.
“Our Pool sales are well advanced, however the combined effect of these old and new crop price factors does have a flow-on effect to our EPRs,” Mr Johnson said.
The next pool update is scheduled for Monday 28th April 2008.
