AWB’s 2008/09 wheat pool estimated returns are holding steady, with the benchmark APW grade at $339 per tonne in the Western Pool and $344 per tonne in the Eastern Pool (FOB, excl GST).

AWB General Manager Australian Commodities Stuart Richardson said that international prices were being pressured upward by dryness in key parts of the US wheat belt, which was countered by weakening values for Russian and Black Sea wheat.

“Amidst these competing forces there is demand for Australian wheat and our pools are holding well,” Mr Richardson said.

“Currency volatility has reduced slightly and we are actively managing our commodity hedging program in line with our sales.

“Both our Western and Eastern Pools are currently still open for grower deliveries and transfers in most regions, although as we reserve the right to close them without notice, any grower wanting to access our pools should contact one of our grain marketers or AWB’s Grower Services Centre,” Mr Richardson said.
