Calingiri continues to be an accepted noodle wheat variety in Western Australia, with customers in both Korea and Japan taking the grain as part of their wheat shipments, according to AWB.

AWB General Manager Commodities Mitch Morison said that AWB had received queries from Western Australian growers about the marketability of the variety, so the company wanted to provide clarity on the issue.

“Calingiri is an accepted variety into both the ANW1 and ANW2 segregations and growers would get at least two years’ notice if this was going to change; at this stage its reclassification is not being considered,” Mr Morison said.

“Calingiri is widely grown in Western Australia and makes up a sizeable proportion of noodle wheat production.

“A significant advantage with growing Calingiri is that it offers growers multiple marketing options when it comes to selling their grain.

“AWB has extensive experience in noodle wheat and in the current marketing environment, growers should feel comfortable that AWB is successfully placing Calingiri with customers as part of their overall requirements,” Mr Morison said.
