The AWB today announced that estimated pool returns (EPRs) for its 2011/12 barley pools have increased by $4 - $7 a tonne or remain unchanged.
AWB’s Jon White said: “Recent increases in US corn and wheat futures have resulted in a firming of Australian feed barley prices.”
“The rallying corn and wheat market is positively impacting barley values and subsequently pushing values higher or stabilising existing barley price estimates which is welcome news for farmers,” Mr White said.
“We are currently seeing good demand for Australian feed barley and we have secured recent feed barley sales to customers in Asia and the Middle East.
“The strong Australian barley export program we have in place for the next couple months gives us more certainty regarding setting our barley EPRs.
“Farmers need to remain diligent when comparing barley pool returns and should take into account the timing and accuracy of estimated pool returns. AWB regularly updates its EPRs to accurately reflect the current state and our view of the market over the life of the pool to give farmers a realistic estimated final value,” Mr White said.
Farmers should contact our grain marketers or call AWB’s farmers services centre on 1800 4GRAIN (1800 447 246) regarding their grain marketing.
