Noodle wheat growers who forward contract the Cadoux and Eradu varieties to AWB Limited’s National Pool will earn guaranteed premiums for their grain next season.
The National Pool’s niche marketing program for the two varieties, which netted growers an $11 per tonne premium for Cadoux and $5.50 per tonne for Eradu in 2000/2001, is set to continue. The premiums apply to pool payments under the Golden Rewards active payment scales.
AWB Western Region Manager Peter Hobbs said 2001/2002 was the third year the niche marketing program for Cadoux had been run, and was the second year for the Eradu program.
“Our international customers have been able to extract premiums in their market place using grain with a tighter varietal and quality specification,” Mr Hobbs said.
“The success of the National Pool in marketing these varieties as niche specialty products has been demonstrated in the early commitment of our customers to a new marketing program for Cadoux and Eradu in 2001/2002.
“The great advantage for WA Noodle wheat growers is that the timing of this announcement will enable to them to plan their seed requirements for next season now while harvest is still underway.”
Mr Hobbs said the Cadoux and Eradu varieties had milling characteristics which made them suitable for specific end-uses, and through the National Pool the premiums available for those uses could be passed on to growers.
“This is a good example of the power of Australia’s Single Desk marketing system to match the quality of the Australian crop with the needs of our export customers.”
