| ||Major milestone for Dimboola || ||
AWB Limited’s Dimboola grain storage facility ticked over 200,000 tonnes of receivals this week, on the way creating a new grain storage benchmark for Victoria.
AWB Storage and Handling Manager Grant McDougall said Dimboola staff had worked round the clock to keep up with the demand for storage at Dimboola.
“Our fast unloading facilities received 8 grades of grain through just three grids and one sample stand and still kept turnaround times for growers to a minimum,” Mr McDougall said.
“These efficiencies are the key reason we have been able to reduce costs to growers in the area by $3 per tonne – a total $600,000 saving for growers in the Wimmera region.
This season Dimboola has accepted 120,000 tonnes of wheat, 70,000 tonnes of barley and 10,000 tonnes of Canola.
At the peak of harvest the centre accepted 8015 tonnes of grain in one day.
“We have a very hard working team at Dimboola who have made the most of the efficiencies built into the site design,” Mr McDougall said.
"The combination of our extended opening hours of 7am to 11 pm, high yields and excellent harvesting conditions has contributed to this fantastic result for Dimboola.”
