AWB has increased Estimated Pool Returns (EPRs) for the 2003 AWB National Pool by between $3 and $12 per tonne this week, following a stronger export market and a clearer picture of quality for the 2003/04 Australian harvest.
The majority of 2003 pay grades have gone up $6 per tonne, taking benchmark APW to $224/t, and APH to $243.50/t. The EPR for AUH has been increased by $7.75/t to $230.75, while durum grades have been increased by $3/t, taking APDR to $266/t. Feed has also increased by $12 per tonne to $185/t.
There has been no change to the 2002 AWB National Pool.
General Manager, AWB National Pool, Sarah Scales, said the market had been strong in the past week, with US futures gaining strength from two weeks of strong US export sales after a technical correction last week.
“As we move into harvest, we are also getting a clearer picture of the potential quality profile of the crop which is reflected though EPR and Golden Rewards scales for the AWB National Pool,” Ms Scales said.
Ms Scales said in response to the crop profile and potential quality issues, AWB had opened three new grades;
AFDR – a new varietal grade with the associated binning line DR4, with flat protein and screenings scales, but payment for moisture. The grade has been set up for South Australian growers in response to expectations of durum grain that is low in protein and high in screenings. The EPR is $218/t.
GUW – a new varietal grade with the associated binning line GUW1, with the same moisture, screenings and protein payments as AGP. The grade has been set up in Western Australia following the recent adverse weather conditions in southern regions, and has a higher tolerance for weather damaged grain. The EPR is $190/t.
FUW – a new varietal grade with the associated binning line FED2, with flat screenings, protein and moisture payments. The grade has also been set up to accommodate potential weather-damaged grain in southern WA. The EPR is $177/t.
The next Pool update will be released at 4pm on December 8, 2003.
