AWB National Pool has kept the majority of Estimated Pool Returns (EPRs) unchanged, but has increased EPRs for a number grades with the Pools continuing to ride out further increases in currency and the relatively flat international market.
Changes to 2004/05 pay grades include an increase of $3 per tonne to noodle grades (ASWN and APN), a $2/t increase for ASW and AGP, and a $7/t for the recently introduced pay grade AUW.
AWB Pool Manager David Johnson said the wheat market had made little net change over the week, with US futures continuing to trade within a relatively narrow range. However, he said the AUD / USD exchange rate had continued to strengthen.
“AWB National Pool has been building a good sales program, which combined with AWB’s hedging strategies is protecting and enhancing pool value,” Mr Johnson said.
“We have been able to make some increases to EPRs for a number of pay grades, which reflects the good quality of wheat we have been receiving in those pay grades compared to our expectations, and the opportunities we see for that wheat in the international market,” he said.
Growers are also reminded of the Guaranteed Access Dates, which are drawing closer for some of the northern port zones.
Growers have certainty that the Pool will remain open until the Guaranteed Access Dates. Beyond these dates, the pool may close without notice, in order to protect pool value and safeguard participants. A full list of Guaranteed Access Dates is available on the AWB website.
“It is important for growers to transfer their wheat quickly from warehousing into the National Pool following harvest, as it helps the movement of grain and assists the National Pool in obtaining important quality information for its international marketing program,” Mr Johnson said.
AWB has this week also made a number of adjustments to pay grades and binning lines, in response to potential requirements during harvest. These include increasing the screenings limit for AUW from 20% to 30%, and introducing the corresponding binning line AUW2 to capture higher screenings grain within the AUW pay grade. AWB has also lifted the screenings limit for AGDR to 30%, and extended the corresponding ADR4 binning line in South Australia, to capture higher screening durum grain in that state.
The next Pool Update will be Monday 29th November 2004.
